Seven Months

Grant passed the seven month mark last week; of course he really only should be between 4.5 and 5 months now. We have had a busy week with appointments about every day; I am definitely grateful for the care and follow-up he has received. Basically everything is going to be status quo for a while. His pulmonologist reviewed his apnea/heart rate monitor and continues to be impressed, but not in a good way, with his bradys. Although the frequency has decreased he still continues to drop his heart rate to the upper teens-20s, luckily they are all self resolving. Darn Reflux. He's basically on every med possible now so we just have to wait it out. I was hoping his GI would decrease his calories a bit since he is getting so chubby. Regular formula is 20 calories/ounce and Grant is still getting 27 calories/ounce. Seven extra calories/ounce doesn't really seem like much, but for his size the extra calories he gets every day are equivalent to a 150lb person eating about 2000 extra calories every day. No wonder his reflux is so bad, I would feel terrible too if I ate that much extra every day. Grant is now over 17lbs and has basically achieved his "catch up growth" in terms of weight-on regular charts at 25% and head circumference-50% but his lenth is still not on the charts for actual age, but that is usually the last to "catch up". His GI wants to keep him on the mondo calories until his weight is 50% for his actual age-he is going to be so fat, hopefully he will be able to crawl and move. Hopefully when we finally get to cut calories it will improve his reflux. He also had his weekly occupational therapy appointment, but he was pretty fussy so it wasn't too productive. We have our first physical therapy appointment tomorrow-hopefully he will be in a better mood.
